KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – A pair of second period markers put the Hearst Lumberjacks into the lead and they would not relinquish it as they went on to double up the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 4-2 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest Sunday afternoon at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Youngster Cameron Allen got Kirkland Lake going early in the match-up as the 15-year-old affiliate player connected for his first in the NOJHL.

Hearst came back to tie it with just over two minutes left in the first frame as William Neeld scored for the third time in two games.

However, Luciano Supino bagged his team-leading fourth a shift later as the Gold Miners carried a 2-1 edge to the intermission.

Countering in the middle stanza, the Lumberjacks picked up marker on Alex Hunt’s first and Dylan Ford’s second, which came five minutes apart, to put the visitors in front 3-2 after two.

In the third, Hearst secured the road triumph as Mathieu Comeau clicked on the power play with three minutes to play to round out the scoring.

Hunt also had a pair of assists for a three-point day.

Shots of goal finished up 36-19 in Kirkland Lake’s favour with Liam Oxner getting the win, while Glen Crandall suffered the setback.
