NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Hearst Lumberjacks goaltender Liam Oxner, Soo Thunderbirds defenceman Creo Soloman and Greater Sudbury Cubs forward Kyler Campbell have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Oct. 3.

LIAM OXNER, (G) HEARST LUMBERJACKS – Getting the start in two of the three contests Hearst played on the road over the weekend, Oxner won both of them, helping the Lumberjacks run a winning streak to four.

Friday night in Powassan, he made 26 stops in an overtime triumph, in handing the Voodoos their first setback of the season.

Oxner then made 34 more saves Sunday afternoon in a victory at Kirkland Lake.

The 20-year-old from Halifax, N.S., posted a 1.92 goals-against average for the week along with a save percentage of .938.

CREO SOLOMON, (D) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – The rookie blueliner had points in each of the Thunderbirds three games during the time frame, doing his part on both ends of the ice for his hometown Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., side.

After picking up his first NOJHL point, with an assist, in a road win in Sudbury Thursday, the 17-year-old Solomon dished out two more helpers in a decision over Espanola Saturday.

He then notched his opening two league goals in a shootout setback at Blind River Sunday.

Sporting a three-game point streak, his five points overall currently pace all Thunderbirds’ defencemen.

KYLER CAMPBELL, (F) GREATER SUDBURY CUBS – With a current NOJHL-best eight-game point streak on the go, Campbell extended that last week by etching his name and number on the game sheet in the trio of Greater Sudbury’s match-ups last week.

The 20-year-old from Huntsville, Ont., scored in each of the three contests the Cubs played, including collecting his initial league hat trick.

In total, Campbell found the back of the net on five occasions as he has now scored in four straight.

He’ll enter play this week leading the NOJHL in tallies with nine and points with 12.
