French River’s Frustaglio; Espanola’s Rainville; Hearst’s Griffioen named NOJHL’s 3 Stars

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forward Will Frustaglio of the French River Rapids; Espanola Express goaltender Joel Rainville and forward Max Griffioen of the Hearst Lumberjacks have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending Nov. 4.

WILL FRUSTAGLIO, (F) FRENCH RIVER RAPIDS – In two games over the weekend Frustaglio totalled six points and supplied the game-winning goal in both of the them as the Rapids skated to a pair of victories on home ice.

The 19-year-old Maple, Ont., product began by tallying twice and setting up another as French River defeated Elliot Lake on Saturday.

He followed that up by notching the difference maker Sunday, while his club was shorthanded, and added two earlier assists in a win over Blind River.

With points in three straight as well as in eight of his past 10 outings, Frustaglio has taken over the French River team scoring lead with 20 after 19 games with eight markers and a dozen helpers.

JOEL RAINVILLE, (G) ESPANOLA EXPRESS – Helping backstop Espanola’s efforts in already surpassing their win total from last season has been the play of netminder Rainville.

The 17-year-old from Sturgeon Falls, Ont., turned in a solid .951 save percentage last week, including making over 40 stops for the sixth time so far in 2018-19.

He had 43 saves in a narrow one-goal setback at Rayside-Balfour Thursday before making 35 more Friday in a 3-1 victory over Elliot Lake.

In 14 appearances this season, Rainville sits second among all NOJHL goalkeepers in saves with 473.

MAX GRIFFIOEN, (F) HEARST LUMBERJACKS – In two games during the time frame the 19-year-old from London, Ont., produced four points in Hearst victories over the Soo Eagles and Soo Thunderbirds.

Included in his efforts were assists on both game-winning goals the Lumberjacks scored.

Currently riding a six-game point streak, Griffioen is playing at just over a point-per-game pace so far this season with 20 in 19 outings featuring a team-high 11 tallies along with nine assists.

A veteran of 75 NOJHL contests, the Hearst forward has etched his name on the score sheet 71 times, including notching 32 goals.
