NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that defenceman Kenyon Nyman (Timmins Rock) as well as forwards Wyatt Marlow (Soo Thunderbirds) and Mason Svarich (Hearst Lumberjacks) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week, for the period wrapping up December 4.

KENYON NYMAN, (D) TIMMINS ROCK – Playing a hand at both ends of the ice in the trio Timmins’ triumphs last week, Nyman registered six points from the back end and helped his side only allow three goals-against in that span.

In all, the 20-year-old from Maple Ridge, B.C., tallied twice, including notching a game-winner, and set-up four more, featuring an assist on another decider to pace the Rock offensively.

Nyman currently leads all NOJHL defencemen in tallies, helpers and points with 10, 28 and 38 respectively.

WYATT MARLOW, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – A couple of solid performances from the 20-year-old, Cranbrook, B.C., product aided in two victories for the Thunderbirds.

He began with his initial league hat trick, and had the deciding marker, along with a pair of assists in a home ice triumph over the rival Soo Eagles, then scored for a fourth straight contest, while chipping in with an assist as the T-Birds topped Blind River in overtime Sunday afternoon.

Since joining the club back in early October, Wyatt has scored a dozen times and assisted on 10 more in 19 match-ups. His three game-winning goals tie him for the team-lead as well.

MASON SVARICH, (F) HEARST LUMBERJACKS – After finishing November with a three-point night, Svarich began December with a five-point effort Sunday to lead Hearst in a win against Cochrane.

Collecting his first NOJHL hat trick and doling out a couple of assists, the 19-year-old forward, who hails from Stony Plain, Alta., is now on a point-per-game pace for the Lumberjacks with 30 in as many appearances.

Svarich currently shares the Hearst team-lead in power play points with 13 and the squad has posted a record of 14-3-0-0 in games when he has picked up at least one point.
