NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forward Mathieu Comeau (Hearst Lumberjacks), goaltender Konrad Simard (Timmins Rock) and defenceman Jaden Raad (Hearst Lumberjacks) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending December 19.

MATHIEU COMEAU, (F) HEARST LUMBERJACKS – It was an impressive week for the 16-year-old rookie forward for his hometown Lumberjacks.

Comeau tallied in each of the three games he played, collecting six in total, including a hat trick and a game-winner, while adding an assist in a trio of Hearst victories.

Five of his markers came in a pair of triumphs against Cochrane and he also provided a goal and a helper in a win over Kirkland Lake.

He currently sits tied for fourth in NOJHL rookie scoring with 29 points, including 16 tallies, while sitting tied for top spot in game-winning goals among first-year skaters with four.

KONRAD SIMARD, (G) TIMMINS ROCK – Getting the starting nod in the Rock’s final game of 2021, Simard was unbeatable, posting a 20-save shutout Sunday afternoon against Kirkland Lake.

Not only did he pick-up the win, but it was also the second consecutive shutout for the Chibougamou, Que., product.

Simard has now not allowed a goal in his past 138 minutes and 43 seconds of game action while making 54 straight saves in the process.

Unbeaten on the season at 6-0-0-0, he sports a crisp 1.50 goals-against average along with a save percentage of .919.

JADEN RAAD, (D) HEARST LUMBERJACKS – Racking up seven points during the time frame, Raad played his part in the three wins Hearst registered last week.

The 19-year-old blueliner, who hails from Burlington, Ont., tallied twice, including notching a game-winner, and dished out five assists to lead his club from the back end.

Raad currently sits tied for second in offensive production among NOJHL defencemen with 27 points on seven markers and 20 helpers.

In games in which he has registered at least one point so far this season, Hearst boasts a record of 14-2-2-0.
