NOJHL names its BrokerLink Insurance Players of the Month for November

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Sunday that Samuel Assinewai (Greater Sudbury Cubs); Adam Shillinglaw (Hearst Lumberjacks); Dryden Riley (Timmins Rock) and Reece Liu (Timmins Rock) have been named its BrokerLink Insurance Forward; Defenceman; Goaltender and Rookie of the Month, respectively, for November.

FORWARD: Samuel Assinewai, Greater Sudbury Cubs – In nine appearances during the period, the 20-year-old Little Current, Ont., product had points in each of them, including supplying seven multi-point performances.

In all, Assinewai tallied nine times and dished out 11 assists for league-leading Greater Sudbury in November to reach the 150-point plateau in his time in the league.

He has etched his name on the game sheet in 21 of the 25 contests he has been a part of so far this season, sitting second overall in NOJHL scoring with 40 points, including having notched 18 goals.

DEFENCEMAN: Adam Shillinglaw, Hearst Lumberjacks – Pacing all NOJHL defencemen in offensive production during the time frame, Shillinglaw registered 17 points helping Hearst maintain their hold on second spot in the league standings.

In 12 appearances, the Lumberjacks captain blasted in six markers and helped set-up 11 others, while only being held pointless twice in that span.

Hailing from New Liskeard, Ont., the 20-year-old Shillinglaw enters December topping all league blueliners in scoring with 30 points and is now just one point shy from 125 in his career.

GOALTENDER: Dryden Riley, Timmins Rock – Pacing all NOJHL netminders in wins last month with six, Riley did his part in aiding to the Rock’s current heater that has seen them win nine in succession.

Allowing two, or fewer, goals-against in each of his seven starts, the 17-year-old from Belleville, Ont., wrapped up November with a save percentage of .934 and currently leads all league goalkeepers in victories with 13.

Riley is also one of three NOJHLers invited to attend the Team Canada East Selection Camp for the upcoming Junior A World Challenge, in Camrose, Alta.

ROOKIE: Reece Liu, (F) Timmins Rock – The first-year Rock forward excelled last month, going on an 18-point run, in helping Timmins finish up November on a nine-game winning streak.

In a dozen appearances, the 18-year-old from Vancouver, B.C., notched four markers, including collecting a deciding tally, and dished out 14 assists.

Moving up to fourth in NOJHL rookie numbers, Liu is averaging over a point-per-game for the Rock this season with 23 in 21 match-ups.
