Nipissing Univ. recruits two more league skaters

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Nipissing Lakers (OUA) have once again dipped into the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League talent pool to help build future rosters.

The North Bay-based university have recruited Timmins Rock defenceman Josh Anderson and Hearst Lumberjacks forward Max Griffioen to attend the school and play U SPORTS hockey when on-ice action resumes.

Anderson, a 20-year-old from Nestleton, Ont., suited up in a total of 130 NOJHL contests, collecting 101 points on 23 tallies and 78 assists.

This season alone, the Rock assistant captain matched an individual single-season-best goal total with 11 and set personal highs in helpers and points with 38 and 49 respectively, while earning league first team all-star laurels on defence.

Also, of note, in games Anderson scored in during the campaign, Timmins sported a solid 10-1 record in 2019-20 and they had a successful 20-3 mark overall in outings in which he found the back of the net.

As for Griffioen, the Lumberjacks’ captain wrapped his Jr. A career leading his side in offensive production with 57 points in 53 games to tie him 11th among all NOJHL.

In all, the 20-year-old from London, Ont., contributed 26 markers and helped set-up 31 others for Hearst

Through 165 league match-ups, Griffioen racked on 180 points by finding the back of the net on 76 occasions and dishing out 104 assists.

His impressive numbers place him No. 1 in Lumberjacks history in games played, goals, assists and points.

Nipissing had earlier recruited Powassan Voodoos standout forward and team captain Parker Bowman to join the Lakers’ program.
