Lumberjacks complete home-and-home sweep of Crunch

COCHRANE, Ont. – Max Griffioen tallied twice and set-up another while Bradley Golant had a goal and three assists to pace the Hearst Lumberjacks to an 8-4 victory over the Cochrane Crunch in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League affair Saturday at Tim Horton Events Centre.

After taking the opening act of the home-and-home affair Friday on home ice, Hearst kept it going on this night as they skated out to a 2-1 lead after one period of play sandwiching markers by Cameron Clark and Max Johnson around one by Cochrane’s Nicolas Flanders.

The Lumberjacks then broke it open in the middle session by striking four times before the Crunch responded as Daniel Fisher, Troy Daniels, Griffioen and Clark all scored for the visitors before Trent Grimshaw got one back for the home side.

Each side would find the back of the net twice in the final frame with Caleb Dolman and Owen Perala connecting for Cochrane while Golant and Griffioen countered for Hearst.

J.J. Berdal and Jake Desando chipped in with two assists to aid the Lumberjacks cause.

Hearst goalkeeper Nicholas Tallarico made 51 stops to record the win, including 25 alone in the second period.

Bradley Dobson started in net for the Crunch and allowed five against on 22 attempts while Zach Wickson suffered the loss in relief saving four of seven in nearly seven minutes of work.
