OLIVER PAIPOONGE, Ont. – The Kam River Fighting Walleye (SIJHL) struck for a trio of first period tallies Sunday and went on to defeat the Hearst Lumberjacks 4-1 in the second game of the Teleco Cup series at Nor’West Arena, just outside of Thunder Bay.
Scoring for the Walleye in the opening frame were Daxton Lang, Sam Sargent and Max Wright, while Matteo Salvatore added to their lead with the lone marker of the middle stanza.
The Lumberjacks’ broke the Walleye’s Maddox Naswaski’s shutout bid with 67 seconds remaining in the contest off a Sam Taylor screen shot from the point that found its way in.
The four-game set is now tied at a win apiece and shifts to Claude Larose Recreation Centre in Hearst for the final two contests, which goes Sept. 6-7.
