FRENCH RIVER – The Hearst Lumberjacks picked up a pair of third period tallies to help them rally for a 2-1 come from behind triumph over the French River Rapids Friday in a tightly-contested Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Noelville Arena.
After a scoreless first frame, French River got on the board 7:06 into the middle stanza when Jacob Romano scored on the power play with assists going to Spencer Dupuis and Connor Loft.
Hearst tied it with a man advantage effort of their own at 11:07 of the third thanks to Max Griffioen’s 16th of the campaign.
The Lumberjacks then picked up the game-winner with 5:42 remaining in regulation as Spencer Silver supplied the difference maker for the visitors.
Max Johnson had assists on both Hearst goals to aid in the win.
Shots on goal in the match-up favoured the Lumberjacks by a 42-33 count with Nicholas Dube picking up the victory while Matty Mayhew suffered the narrow defeat.
