TIMMINS, Ont. – The Hearst Lumberjacks picked up a goal and two assists from defenceman Alec Johnson to help them skate to a 3-1 road victory over the Timmins Rock Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up in front of 848 spectators at McIntyre Arena.
Johnson sent the Lumberjacks on their way by opening the night’s scoring just 26 seconds into the contest with his second tally of the campaign.
He then helped set-up J.J. Berdal for his second of the year in the waning moments of the first frame during a late man advantage opportunity.
After a scoreless middle stanza, Timmins pulled to within one with 5:12 left in regulation as Keegan McMullen converted on a penalty shot attempt.
Johnson however fed Jake Desando at 17:20 to restore the visitors two-goal cushion and help secure the road triumph.
Nicholas Tallarico finished by stopping 29 of the 30 shots he faced in the Hearst net to record the win while Jean-Marc Brisson faced 20 attempts in defeat for the Rock, who dropped their second straight outing.
