GALLERY: Griffioen tallies twice as Hearst holds off Timmins

TIMMINS, Ont. – The Hearst Lumberjacks saw their captain Max Griffioen tally twice as part of an eventual 3-2 victory over the Timmins Rock in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League matinee Sunday afternoon at McIntyre Arena with 876 fans in attendance.

Griffioen started the scoring near the five-minute mark of the contest as he notched his first of the day.

Moving on to the middle stanza, Griffioen tacked on another early as he reached the 20-goal plateau on the season as well as giving him 70 overall in his NOJHL career.

Timmins did cut into the deficit before the second period came to a close when Josh Anderson finished off some work from teammates Josh Dickson and Cameron Kosurko at 15:37.

Moving on to the third, the Lumberjacks restored their two-tally cushion midway through the frame when Justin Miron converted during a man advantage opportunity.

Drawing closer once more, the Rock got back to within one again thanks to Stewart Parnell’s fifth with 4:18 remaining in regulation.

However, Hearst (22-10-0-1) held on from there to secure the road victory and move past Timmins (21-5-1-1) into second spot in the NOJHL East.

The Rock do hold five games in hand on the Lumberjacks though.

Shots on net in the contest saw Timmins hold a 34-19 edge with Liam Oxner picking up the win while Vance Meyer suffered the defeat.

Nick Bruno aided the visitors cause with two assists.
