SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forwards Jacob Kelly of the Elliot Lake Wildcats; Kyle Liinamaa of the Rayside-Balfour Canadians and Dominik Lavergne of the Hearst Lumberjacks have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Jan. 14.
JACOB KELLY, (F) ELLIOT LAKE WILDCATS – The 17-year-old Barrie, Ont., native suited up twice for Elliot Lake in the time frame and picked up four points along the way.
Kelly began by scoring twice, including picking up the game-winner, and supplying an assist as the Wildcats defeated Blind River Friday evening.
He then had a helper Saturday in an overtime setback vs. Timmins to extend a personal season-high point streak to six in succession while also etching his name on the scoresheet in eight of his previous nine contests.
Currently leading Elliot Lake in offensive production, Kelly enters play this week tied for third in NOJHL scoring with 51 points, which is a career best for him in a campaign as are his 24 goals and 27 assists.
KYLE LIINAMAA, (F) RAYSIDE-BALFOUR CANADIANS – In three outings last week the 19-year-old from Sudbury had a goal in each of them helping the Canadians register a pair of victories.
Liinamaa scored once each night as Rayside-Balfour split a home-and-home set with the Soo Eagles then capped off his run by notching another marker before setting up the game-winner in the waning moments in a late 3-2 triumph over Timmins Sunday night.
Through 35 contests this season the second-year forward has notched nine goals and added 14 assists for 23 points, including eight in his past 10 outings.
DOMINIK LAVERGNE, (F) HEARST LUMBERJACKS – Lavergne has been an offensive boost to the Lumberjacks cause since his return to the NOJHL earlier this month.
Last week the 20-year-old, who hails from Ottawa, picked up five points for Hearst as he scored once and doled out four assists to aid in the Lumberjacks’ efforts in their quest to secure a playoff spot in this, their initial campaign in the league.
Lavergne has totalled eight points already in January in just five games, including four tallies.
