TIMMINS, Ont. – Multiple point nights from Brant Romaniuk, Kaeden McArthur and Lucas Lowe helped send the Timmins Rock on their way to a convincing 6-1 win over the visiting Hearst Lumberjacks in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League matchup Thursday at McIntyre Arena.
Timmins opened the scoring 6:15 into the contest when McArthur scooped up the rebound off a Jack Quevillion point attempt, then dragged it around the outstretched pad of Hearst netminder Alexandre Boivin before tucking in his seventh goal of the season.
Adding another after handling a Lumberjacks’ power play, Lowe led a two-on-one down the right wing where he elected to shoot and wired a wrister through Boivin in the latter stages of the session.
More from the home side in the middle session, Romaniuk made it 3-0, a half-minute after killing off a Hearst man advantage, by putting one to the target that clipped off a defender and bounced up before dropping and trickling across the goal line at 8:16.
Up a skater themselves, Timmins made it 4-0 thanks to Thomas Beard who finished off a play put to him by the skate of Lowe.
Going to the power play once more, the Rock went up by five after 40 minutes thanks to Matteo Paradiso slamming in his first NOJHL goal, from the slot, at 19:21.
In the final frame, the hosts put it out of reach while shorthanded when Romaniuk pressured a turnover, then went in alone and made a couple of nifty dekes before lifting a backhand over the pad of Owen Bonthuis who had entered in relief for the Lumberjacks to begin the third.
Hearst finally solved Timmins’ goalkeeper Frédéric Cousineau during a lengthy five-on-three midway through the third when Mathieu Comeau chipped in a rebound from William Pâquet shot that the netminder could not quite corral, which rounded out the scoring.
That marker gives the Lumberjacks’ duo points in eight straight outings.
With the result, Timmins moves to 9-5-0-1 on the year and with the loss Hearst dips to 14-4-0-1.
