GALLERY: Timmins takes close one over Hearst

TIMMINS, Ont. – A Wayne Mathieu marker with 3:22 remaining in the second period held up as the game-winner as the Timmins Rock went on to edge the Hearst Lumberjacks 3-2 Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest in front of 827 fans at McIntyre Arena.

Special teams helped the Rock pick-up the lone tally of the opening frame when Derek Seguin scored on the power play at 18:38.

Hearst drew level 9:04 into the middle stanza thanks to a Max Griffioen’s sixth of the campaign, then took the lead 42 seconds later on a Bradley Golant effort.

Regrouping the Rock tied it at 16:09 as Alexandre Brisson notched his fifth of the season before Mathieu came right back for Timmins on the next shift and notched the difference maker.

It remained tight-checking the rest of the way as there would be no further goal scoring on the night.

Austin Anselmo did have assists on both Lumberjacks’ tallies.

Eric Jackson made 19 saves to record the win for the Rock while Artem Bortovskiy faced 24 attempts in defeat for Hearst.
