SUDBURY, Ont. – Getting goals from six different skaters, while riding the shutout goaltending of Ayden Mullen, helped the Timmins Rock roll over the first place Hearst Lumberjacks 6-0 Tuesday at the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Showcase in Sudbury.
Timmins kicked off the scoring nearly two minutes into the contest when they moved up ice with numbers that led to Lucas Lowe saucering a pass over to Kimani Eccleston, who was making his NOJHL debut, to notch his opening tally.
Adding another at 8:06, Diego Da Silva started another odd-man rush that saw Kaeden McArthur feed Brant Romaniuk driving to the net where he wired a rising wrister over the glove of Hearst’s Alexandre Boivin who was peppered with shots throughout the contest.
The Rock added to their cushion early in the middle session, during a goalmouth scramble, that saw Victor Hourtouat jam in a loose puck from the right of the crease during a man advantage opportunity for his initial NOJHL goal.
Another extra-man effort in the latter stages of the second put Timmins up by four after 40 minutes thanks to Maxfeld Shin who quickly whipped in a sharp cross-ice pass from McArthur.
In the final frame, McArthur helped secure the result for the Rock in the slot while being knocked down as he stuffed in a Romaniuk set-upt.
Adding to the onslaught while up a skater midway through the third, Thomas Beard neatly tipped in a Kim shot that came from up top to round out the scoring.
The shutout for Mullen was his first in the NOJHL.
Picking up player of the game honours were the respective goaltenders, Mullen and Boivin.
