NOJHL names its Rogers 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that defenceman Finn Manttari (Kirkland Lake Gold Miners) as well as forwards Owen King (Greater Sudbury Cubs) and Mathieu Comeau (Hearst Lumberjacks) have been named its Rogers 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending November 16.

Finn Manttari, (D) Kirkland Lake Gold Miners – Doing his part at both ends of the ice over the weekend, Manttari picked up four points from the backend for Kirkland Lake, and helped them allow only three goals-against in a pair of Gold Miners’ victories.

The 17-year-old blueliner from Wawa, Ont., began by notching the difference maker and assisting on two other markers in a win over the Soo Eagles Friday. He also set-up another tally in a narrow home-ice triumph versus the Soo Thunderbirds Sunday.

Coming out of the Kapuskasing Flyers Great North U18 Hockey League system, Manttari has jumped up to fifth in NOJHL rookie scoring among defencemen with 11 points while his two game-winning goals lead all league rearguards.

Owen King, (F) Greater Sudbury Cubs – With points in six straight contests, including collecting six in two Greater Sudbury wins during the time frame, King’s efforts have helped the Cubs move up the NOJHL standings.

King, who played U18 hockey with the Oakville Rangers AAA side prior to joining the junior ranks, had a goal and an assist in a win over Espanola before lighting the lamp twice, and dishing out a couple of helpers in a lopsided result at Powassan.

Since returning to the league, he has averaged over two points-per-game with 16 in seven match-ups while notching nine tallies and chipping in on seven others.

Mathieu Comeau, (F) Hearst Lumberjacks – Moving into third spot all-time in NOJHL history in games played at 232 on Saturday, Comeau had another big effort in a win over French River.

In that contest, the 20-year-old Hearst product registered his third six-point outing of the season with a pair of goals and four assists, including one on the eventual game-winner in a lopsided result versus the Rapids.

Three goals shy of 100 in the career, Comeau, another former Kapuskasing Flyers (GNU18HL) alumnus, continues to pace the league in scoring in the current campaign with 50 points on 19 markers and 31 helpers.
