NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that goaltender’s Jake Dubinsky (Cochrane Crunch) and Kolton Bourret (Soo Thunderbirds), as well as forward Zachary Demers (Hearst Lumberjacks), have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week, for the period concluding December 18.

JAKE DUBINSKY, (G) COCHRANE CRUNCH – An incredible individual performance saw Dubinsky do everything nearly possible for Cochrane, making 73 saves and allowing just one goal-against in 65 minutes of regulation and overtime in an eventual 2-1 shootout setback at Timmins, on Friday.

That was the most stops in a single contest by a NOJHL netminder since Jonathan Lemaire was credited with 81 in a December 20, 2019 as a member of the then Elliot Lake Wildcats in a one-sided home loss against the Powassan Voodoos.

The 20-year-old from New Denver, B.C., finished his splendid night with a 0.92 average, along with a stellar .986 save percentage in the match-up.

ZACHARY DEMERS, (F) HEARST LUMBERJACKS – Pacing all league skaters offensively last week, Demers piled up eight points in total during a trio of Lumberjacks’ triumphs.

The contributions of the 20-year-old St-Hubert, Que., product had him score in each of the three wins and dish out five assists along the way.

Moving into second spot in league scoring (13G-36A), Demers also has 125 points in his NOJHL career, in just 83 games, on 30 tallies and 95 helpers.

KOLTON BOURRET, (G) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – Also supplying solid work between the pipes last week was the 17-year-old Bourret.

Winning both of his starts for the Thunderbirds, during the time frame, saw the goalkeeper from Thunder Bay, Ont., go 2-0 with a stingy 1.00 goals-against average, along with an equally crisp save mark of .968, in decisions over Elliot Lake and Blind River.

Helping backstop the resurgence of Sault Ste. Marie, Bourret has come away victorious in each of his past seven appearances, while also going 8-1-1-0 in his previous 10 outings.
