SUDBURY, Ont. – Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League players continue to earn NCAA opportunities with Spencer Silver of the Hearst Lumberjacks being the latest to do so.
Hailing from North Wales, Penn., Silver will further his education and continue his hockey career at NCAA Division III Plattsburgh State.
In 87 career contests in the NOJHL, he played at over a point-per-game pace with the Lumberjacks, collecting 92 in 87 outings on 49 tallies and 43 assists.
Silver will be joining former Hearst teammate Austin Anselmo, who also saw action in the NOJHL with Kirkland Lake, at the school located in upstate New York where the Cardinals compete out of the State University of New York Athletic Conference.
Another former NOJHLer at Plattsburgh is Brendan Young, who skated for the Blind River Beavers, where he finished fifth in league scoring, following a 70-point campaign in 2018-19.
“With three players from the past couple of seasons now having been recruited to Plattsburgh State, it’s continues to show the NOJHL is gathering more and more interest from a variety of NCAA programs across the U.S.,” offered commissioner Robert Mazzuca.
“Having over 250 commitments, and counting, the past five seasons alone up to the next level, it bodes well for the NOJHL and the continued interest we are seeing across the board,” added Mazzuca.
“This is a credit to the coaching and management staffs of all of our member clubs, who are running effective programs that schools and major junior teams, on both sides of the border, are seeing prospects being developed, who can succeed at the next level.”
