SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Hearst Lumberjacks have announced that forward Bronson Babyak has committed to attend school at NCAA Division III Marian University and skate for the Sabres men’s hockey program.

Hailing from Saskatoon, Sask., the 21-year-old Babyak averaged a point-per-game this past season for the Lumberjacks, scoring 22 times and assisting on 25 others in 47 contests.

He also earned the league’s Mitch Tetreault Memorial Trophy, emblematic as the NOJHL’s Top Defensive Forward.

A tenacious checker, Babyak brought a defensive minded pace to his game throughout the campaign, while also contributing at key times offensively for the Lumberjacks.

In his final year of Jr. A hockey, Babyak notched three shorthanded tallies and set-up two others for Hearst, who led the league in man-down markers (14) and sat second overall on the penalty kill (83.4%).

Babyak went on to register a dozen points in the club’s playoff run to the league final, tallying five times and aiding on seven more, in 16 outings.

“Bronson was a tremendous leader for our program and a very good player,” said Hearst general manager Jonathan Blier. “He brought an honest effort every time he stepped on the ice.”

In 67 career NOJHL games, through a season and a half, Babyak amassed 56 points, that included notching 25 tallies.

In discussing his NCAA commitment, Babyak had this to say: “I’m extremely thankful to the Lumberjacks as this opportunity wouldn’t be there without them. I’m looking forward to attending Marian and playing for the Sabres.”

Based in Fond du Lac, Wis., the Marian Sabres compete in the 10-school Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
