HEARST, Ont. – Zack Dorval picked up a goal and an assist to help the Hearst Lumberjacks double up the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 4-2 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Saturday at Claude Larose Arena.
Neither side would connect in the opening 20 minutes with goalkeepers Matt Kustra of Hearst and Cade McEwen of Kirkland Lake keeping it scoreless.
It was the Gold Miners that would get on the board first as Gregory Trudeau-Paquet picked up his 28th of the campaign at 6:35 as he ran a point streak to five games in succession.
Battling back, Hearst drew level later in the session thanks to Max Griffioen as he reached the 20-goal plateau on the season.
They then took the lead at 15:38 with Wade Auger supplying his eighth overall.
It was more Lumberjacks to begin the final session with Max Johnson making it 3-1 nearly five minutes into the frame while Dorval added another at 16:26 to put them up by three.
A late power play helped Kirkland Lake pull to within two as Tyler Fyfe finished off his team-leading 35th at 19:17 to round out the scoring.
Kustra did finish with 32 stops to record the win while McEwen handled 42 of 46 in defeat.
