SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – A three-goal third period helped the Soo Eagles rally for a 5-3 come from behind win over the Hearst Lumberjacks and register their seventh consecutive Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory Friday at Pullar Stadium.
Hearst came out fast a got goals early supplied by Jake Hagen and Alex Cannon to put the guests up 2-0 before the match-up was five minutes in.
Sault Ste. Marie did cut into the deficit late in the opening period when Joel Brandinger scored at 19:21 as he scored for a second straight outing.
In the middle session, the Lumberjacks restored their two-goal lead at 4:32 when Spencer Silver struck, giving him six goals in his past nine appearances.
Another marker deep in the period saw the Eagles pull back to within one in the final minute of the second as Caleb Wood scored for a 13th time this season, giving him markers in three straight and points in four in a row.
The Soo then drew level 1:55 into the third when Chase Tallaire picked up his initial NOJHL tally.
They then got the game-winner courtesy of Wood as he buried the rebound from in close off a Tommy Buis shot from the right side with 4:05 left on the clock.
Buis then capped off the comeback with an empty netter in the final minute to finish off the evening’s scoring.
Shane Brancato made 29 saves to record the win for the Eagles
Hearst starter Rahul Bola allowed three goals against on 18 shots before giving way to Liam Oxner, who suffered the defeat in nearly 18 minutes of relief giving up one on seven chances faced.
