GALLERY: Dumas gets game-winner in Hearst victory over Kirkland Lake

HEARST, Ont. – A Dominic Dumas empty net goal with 70 seconds remaining in regulation proved to be the game-winner as the Hearst Lumberjacks went on to edge the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 6-4 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter Friday at Claude Larose Arena.

The hometown Lumberjacks picked up the lone marker of the opening frame when Jordyn Mughal notched his fifth of the campaign at 14:09.

Kirkland Lake countered quickly to commence the middle stanza, netting the equalizer 35 seconds in on a Jacob Hiltz effort.

Hearst came right back a couple of shifts later to go back on top as Jake Desando supplied his 17th at 2:57.

Answering once more, the Gold Miners drew level once more with Connor Van Weelie at 14:57.

Heading to the third, Kirkland Lake took their first lead when Casey Gerstein collected his fifth at 4:40.

Back and forth they went that saw the Lumberjacks tie things up again as defenceman Adam Rajsigl collected his first NOJHL midway through the period.

Hearst then broke the tie, on Max Griffioen’s team-leading 23rd at 14:48.

Dumas then delivered some needed insurance with his empty net effort.

With their goaltender still out, and the Gold Miners on a late power play, Mughal added his second of the night with a shorthanded empty netter to make it 6-3.

Still up a skater, Kirkland Lake converted on the power play in the final seconds thanks to Caleb Thompson to round out the scoring.

Alex Cannon chipped in with three assists to aid the Lumberjacks cause.

Facing 27 shots, Liam Oxner picked up the win.

Kohl Reddy started for the Gold Miners and suffered the loss, allowing three against on 39 chances while Kyle McNair stopped two of three in a brief relief stint.
