HEARST, Ont. – A couple of first period goals and 46 saves from netminder MacKenzie Savard helped the Rayside-Balfour Canadians earn a 2-1 road triumph over the Hearst Lumberjacks Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest.
After posting consecutive shutouts in their first two home games, the Lumberjacks finally allowed one against at Claude Larose Arena as Rayside-Balfour’s Baldino Aiello third tally in two nights put the visitors on the board 71 seconds into the contest.
Another Canadians’ rookie helped the visitors add to their cushion late in the first as Jacob Partridge scored for a second straight night to put his side up a pair at 17:14.
Bradley Golant brought the hometown faithful to their feet 13:12 into the middle frame as his third of the season beat Rayside-Balfour starter Savard.
Savard shut the door the rest of the way however for the Canadians making his 46 stops to secure the victory.
Nicholas Dube faced 28 attempts in the narrow loss for Hearst.
