KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Registering his initial Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout, Hearst Lumberjacks goaltender Alexandre Boivin did his part in a 6-0 road win over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners Sunday at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
The lone goal of the first period was supplied by Hearst when DonHeaven Veilleux stuffed in a loose puck past Kirkland Lake netminder Matis Bureau-Morel at 14:18.
In the middle frame, a quality chance to tie it for the Gold Miners, on an odd-man rush, saw a Trent Nobes rip a shot by Boivin, but ring off the crossbar and out.
Then, a fortuitous break during the final minute of the period saw the puck hit off a falling Kirkland Lake defenders stick right to Damien Bourdon-Lemoyne in front where he pumped it in.
Coming right out off the draw to begin the third, Hearst made it 3-0 as Aiden Kalin pumped shot over the blocker of Bureau-Morel just eight seconds in.
Securing the road victory in the late going Veilleux took a cross-ice pass from Kalin and put it upstairs.
Tacking on two more, Hearst finished if off with Bronson Babyak opting to shoot and converting on a two-on-one while Liam Boswell tipped in a point shot.
The victory raises the Lumberjacks record to 16-5-0-1 and in defeat the Gold Miners dropped to 2-16-0-2.
